Today aesthetic dentistry is more popular than ever before. It involves teeth whitening, closing spaces between the teeth, replacing teeth and reshaping teeth. All of this is possible because dentists have a wide range of tools available to improve the patients’ smile. Before you decide to have some kind of procedure, first you should know all the advantages and disadvantages that it will have. Also ensure that you have enough information about associated costs, the experience of the dentist and whether or not there will be need for special maintenance.

Having Your Teeth Whitened

With time your teeth become discolored or stained especially if you’re a smoker, if you take given kinds of medication or if you have foods and beverages that stain the teeth, such as tea or coffee. There are two main possibilities to have your teeth whitened: an in-office procedure or a system that you can use at home. In case you choose the home option, the dentist will create a fitted tray that you have to fill with the whitening solution and place it over your teeth. Although this is more convenient, it will take 1-2 weeks longer to achieve the desired results. The in-office solution works faster and it might be enough for you to have 1-2 visits.
Remember that in case you go on using the same substances as before, you will have to think about aesthetic dentistry again because the teeth will become stained. The whitening products aren’t intended to clean teeth so you will still have to practice good oral hygiene.

Bonding On Your Teeth

This procedure is used to improve the looks of the teeth by closing the spaces between them. Bonding materials can also be used to protect the root of a tooth or to fill smaller cavities. Usually it only takes one visit to get the procedure done. First an etching solution is applied on the tooth and then the dentist applies tooth-colored materials on the surface of the affected tooth. Although bonding can be long-lasting, the materials could chip or get colored.

Choosing Veneers Instead

These are custom shells usually made of porcelain or plastic to cover the front side of a tooth in order to change their shape or color. These are longer-lasting than bonding and they offer better results while being less expensive than crowns. Veneers can help if there is space between the teeth, if the teeth are worn or chipped, if the teeth are stained, or if they are crooked or poorly shaped.

In case you have some kind of problem with your teeth, it is highly unlikely that aesthetic dentistry won’t be able to help you. However, you have to remember that dentists can’t do magic either. For more information visit Beverly Hills Institute of Dental Esthetics
