No one really likes performance reviews. Many employees avoid confrontation and shirk responsibility at every opportunity. A performance review would hopefully be the time for these employees to be confronted about how their actions are causing other employees to work harder, but unfortunately, employees who are prone to this behavior having been doing it for some time and know how to ‘work the system.’ Employees who talk a big game but don’t get much done, can drag a whole office team down.

Looking For Criticism

Other office members don’t necessary look forward to reviews but appreciate being told what they’re doing wrong so he or she can fix the problem as quickly as possible. For these employees, having what many would consider difficult conversations with management and other employees that include criticism of their work performance are welcomed and preferable to not hearing about a problem and/or a problem being discussed behind closed doors.

Where Most Offices Stand

Most of us fall somewhere between these two examples. We don’t go out of our way to avoid work, and we don’t seek out criticism. Most of us try to do our work, have fun and not upset the office’s workflow. But what if the workflow needs to be upset or disturbed? What if it’s time for a new paradigm? For many businesses, the new model consists of the ‘Google model.’ Give your employees more freedom and they’ll be happier and thus produce more, but that’s not always cost-effective. Not every business is Google and not every worker wants a yoga studio in the office.

One great tool managers are instating in their offices is employee performance review software. This software helps to get real-time feedback from employees to management; feedback that can help management identify employees who are not contributing and ‘working the system.’ This kind of open feedback is great for opening channels for employees to communicate more effectively and stay current with coworker’s progress on projects while also helping This employee performance review software is typically part of a larger suite or cloud that is proving to be an extremely helpful tool in engaging employees through easy to navigate software that helps productivity, communication, feedback, organization and overall employee satisfaction with not only their jobs but their role in the company.
