What
Is a Blepharoplasty?
A
Blepharoplasty is a procedure that involves removing fat, skin and
muscle from around the eyelids. It can also correct droopy eyelids.
The procedure can be done on your upper or lower eyelids. Many people
get a Blepharoplasty along with another procedure such as a brow
lift.
How
to Prepare for a Blepharoplasty
You
will need to meet with a surgeon before you get a Blepharoplasty
in Lakeview.
They will discuss your expectations, medical history and do a
physical exam. They will also take photos of your eyes at different
angles.
What
Happens During the Procedure
The
surgical steps will depend on whether you get this procedure done on
the upper or lower eyelids. If you are getting the procedure done on
both eyelids, then the surgeon will likely start on the upper
eyelids. The surgeon will make a small incision and then remove the
fat, muscle and skin. The surgeon will do the same thing for the
lower eyelids.
Side
Effects of a Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty
is a safe procedure. However, it can cause side effects. Some of the
most common side effects include watery eyes, blurry vision, light
sensitivity and double vision. These side effects are
temporary.
What
You Need to Do to Recover
You
will need to use an ice pack for the first 24 hours after your
surgery. Apply the ice every five minutes four to five times during
the day. The ice pack will reduce the swelling.
You will need
to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity for at least one week.
Do not smoke or rub your eyes. Wear sunglasses for the first few days
if you will be going outside. Additionally, you will need to follow
up with your doctor in a few days.
