When it’s time to make the decision to move your family member to an assisted living or nursing facility, it can be difficult for everyone involved. You can take a tour of the facility and talk to the workers so that you have a better understanding of the daily activities and services to make the transition a little easier. Here are a few things that you can usually expect from this type of facility.
Security
When your family goes to a memory care facility, they should be in a safe and secure environment. There are usually alarms on the doors to alert workers as to when residents leave and alarms on the beds to let workers know if someone were to fall from the bed. Some facilities have alarms on the wheelchairs for those who might not be able to sit still all the time or just as an additional precaution.
Activities
In order to keep the brain and body as active as possible, a memory care facility often has a daily schedule of activities. These typically include morning time with a therapist, an activity with other residents in the afternoons, and special events for holidays and birthdays. There is typically a schedule for meals, bathing, and even outings for those who are able to leave the facility.
Support
There is often plenty of support for residents. There are nurses who are specialized in the care that residents need as well as group sessions with family members so that you know what is going on with your loved one.
