When it comes to drilling operations, every minute counts. This is especially true for jobs being done on the highway, airport, or pretty much any street. If you know the right operation of your drill, you’ll get done safely and quickly.
Here are four main things you can consider to keep drilling operations going well.
1. Be Prepared – Get the Drill Ready
If you take a few minutes to get the drill fire up and running, it can prevent downtime. Start by checking the capabilities of the air compressor. You’re going to need 100 cfm for each gang, so a 3-gang drill, for example, is probably going to need about 300 cfm.
2. Choose the Right Settings
Keep in mind that the pressure of the feed is going to impact the efficiency of the drill. If you have the settings too low, it’s going to cause the drill to bounce around on the concrete instead of drill into it. The pressure that is set too high will cause the bit to slow down or stop completely.
3. Keep Things in Order for Good Drilling Operations
Once you have everything set on the right spot on the grade, you need to feed the drill. Place it again the concrete. Adjust the feed control valve to the in position. After that, flip the power switch on. Once you’ve reached the right depth, turn the motors off to prevent dry-firing. After that, place the valve in the out position to remove the drill. If it’s stick, turn the power off until it retracts completely.
