Nothing is more annoying than going to light up your favorite display only to find your batteries are dead. Fortunately, batteries are widely available and easy to purchase. The most common battery used in many novelty items is the CR2032 battery. The CR2032 battery is a tiny button cell unit that provides 3.0 volts of electricity. This power cell is most commonly used to charge small devices, including watches, computers, small instruments and lighted devices, including battery-powered candles and display units.
Getting the Most from Your Battery
To get the most from your button cell, you want to be sure to purchase the best brand. You also want to care for your lithium cell battery. Most of these batteries are created to work well in high temperatures, so your device can heat up to 185 degrees Fahrenheit or 85°C. This is good, as many of these batteries are used to power lighting including LED or battery-operated candles. On the flip side of the coin, power cells can also power up when exposed to frigid temperatures, below -22 degrees Fahrenheit, or –30°C. It is unlikely that you will expose your battery to these extremes, but in the event that you do, rest assured it will operate.
Selecting the Right Power Cell
Under no circumstances should you try to use an alternative to the correct lithium cell. While many circular cell batteries look the same, they all operate with different volts. The voltage represents the electric potential of the power cell. This is the amount of electric current that will pass through the cell, or watts of power. Using another lithium unit would be the equivalent of trying to make more or less voltage work in a unit that wasn’t designed to operate under those circumstances. Imagine trying to power up a 2 volt candle with 9 volts. You might end up with a hot and melted mess, or in the worst case, a potential fire hazard. Most of the time, using an incorrect lithium cell will result in the unit not working properly. It is always best to match up the numbers on your unit with the appropriate lithium cell battery. Have a steady stash of backup cells on hand in case your battery burns out.
