Everyone is exposed to mold and mildew, in the house and outdoors. The exposure is highest where there is as source of water and drying out naturally does not occur. If nature does not solve the problem, it will be necessary to undertake mold removal in San Diego either as a DIY project or by professional mold removal companies.

There are thousands of different kinds of mold; some are well known allergens that cause problems to skin, eyes and respiration. A few of these thousands of known molds can even cause serious health problems. The sad truth is; any mold in the right concentration can cause health problems and the only way to avoid the problems is to undertake mold removal in San Diego.

Health problems occur when people breathe in large doses of the airborne mold spores. Unfortunately for some, even a small quantity of spores can cause problems. This is particularity evident in small children, the elderly, those with pre-existing respiratory problems, those with a compromised immune system and pregnant women.

The symptoms include:

* Respiratory: Asthma, wheezing and similar problems

* Sinus congestion accompanied by a dry cough

* Eye problems: Burning, watering and inflammation

* Nose and throat problems: sneezing and bloody nose

* Rashes and hives

* Headaches, poor memory and mood swings

* General aches and pains

The worst problems are those caused by black mold, which is toxic. This mold is a slimy, dark green color, almost black. It rather resembles thick black paint or tar. This black mold grows in areas and on surfaces which are continually wet. The material that it grows on is anything organic such as wallpaper, ceiling tiles or cardboard. This mold can be killed and cleaned with a bleach rich wash solution, however, if the problem has taken over and become serious, then professional companies involved with mold removal in San Diego must be called in.

Prevention of mold:

It is not practical to think that all mold can be eliminated indoors, but, there are many ways that you can control mold growth by controlling any moisture in your home.

Stop the source of water:

* Repair leaks in pipes and caulk areas around tubs and shower stalls. Remove the environment that is conducive to mold growth.

* Build or re-build with mold resistant materials such as indoor-outdoor carpet, waterproof wallboard, water-resistant glue etc.

* Prevent the ingress of water from the outside to the inside of the house. Rainwater must be directed away from the foundation and the ground should slope away from the house.

* If you have a crawlspace, cover the dirt with plastic to stop moisture coming from the ground, ventilate the area as much as possible.

Water is the friend of mold and if you can eliminate the source and then keep the area clean, dry and periodically disinfected, you can solve the problem.
