With the new year comes the new models and the Impreza is no exception. The Impreza is Subaru’s compact offering and has been ever since it was introduced back in 1992. The 2017 model has introduced a few changes from the 2016 model, but they are largely the same. Here are a few things to know about this small compact before you look for a new Subaru Impreza in Naperville.
Rear Hatch Opening
The rear hatch door on the 2017 model has been redesigned from the 2016 model to use split headlights. While this may take away from its aesthetic appeal, it allows for an extra four inches of width when loading the back of you Impreza.
Subaru also managed to add an extra three feet of cargo room in the rear. How did they do this? Subaru moved the rear shock towers further apart. This allowed for the extra storage room inside.
Power
The only engine currently offered for the 2017 Impreza is Subaru’s 2.0L flat four which is naturally aspirated and produces 152hp and 145lb-ft of torque. This may not be much for a Subaru, but it is more than enough for daily driving, and you do not have to worry about turbo lag.
Transmission
For the transmission, drivers have the option of either a five-speed manual or a CVT. Both options are available on all trim models except the Limited trim. This is the highest trim model and is available with a CVT only. This is a far cry from most of Subaru’s competition which only offers manuals for base model vehicles. This can often alienate manual drivers.
For those who do not know, a CVT uses a series of pulleys to constantly adjust the gear ratio rather than use fixed ratios like in a traditional transmission
There are many other features to the new Subaru Impreza, so be sure to check one out at your local dealership.
