Standard Shapes
There are several very standard extruded aluminum shapes. These can be found in many different sizes and different alloys, but there is also the possibility to have these standards shapes in atypical or unique sizes.
* Channel – this is the three sizes of a square with the top open. Channel is used in a wide range of construction and fabrication needs.
* Rectangular tube or bar – just as it sounds, this is a hollow rectangular tube of any specified dimensions and bar is the solid. This is commonly used in construction as well as for support as it is both lightweight as well as very strong.
* Round rod and tube – round rod is solid, while tube is hollow. There is also a pipe that can be formed as standard extruded aluminum shapes. Pipe and tube are measured differently, with tubing measured by wall thickness and outer diameter while pipe is measured by the interior diameter and the wall thickness.
* Angle – the structural angle is half of a square, with the two sides forming a right angle. There are different options for edges from square to rounded on this as with all extruded aluminum shapes.
* T and Z – tees look just like the capital letter T, and the Z-bar has the same configuration as that letter. These are often used in fabrication and for the structural support.
Custom Extrusions
The custom extruded aluminum shapes are typically much more complex. They can be hollow, or have a hollow central core or multiple hollow components, or they can be solid with unique exterior shapes and elements.
