Most everyone these days know, that painkiller drugs can result in overdoses and deaths. In fact, it’s an enormous problem in America today. Over the past ten years, over 250,000 Americans have died from opiate overdoses. A quarter of a million Americans. Not trying to kill themselves, but accidently taking too much opiates. Opiates are the names of the kind of drugs that are contained in pain pills and is what makes them so dangerous.
Mixing certain drugs with opiates, can make the opiates stronger than one might expect. This can lead to overdoses. For instance, mixing certain drugs with only one or two Lortabs, can make it like the person took ten Lortabs. It’s therefore good to know which drugs to avoid while taking any opiate, painkiller drug.
The drugs which should never be mixed with opiates are classified as Sedative-Hypnotics. Drugs in this category include the Benzodiazapines, or Benzos as they are often called. Examples of Benzodiazapines are: Xanax-Alprazolam; Klonopin-Clonazapam; Valium-Diazapam; Librium-Chlordiazapoxide; and Ativan-Lorazapam; Serax-Oxazapam. Mixing any of these drugs with opiates can be a deadly combination.
The other “drug” which is also a Sedative-Hypnotic is: Alcohol. Most don’t think of alcohol as a drug, but it is. Mixing alcohol with opiates can also result in an overdose and death. If a person is very intoxicated (drunk) on alcohol, and then takes some opiate medication on top of the alcohol; the person cold stop breathing and die. It actually happens every single day.
Of course, the best thing to do is to get off opiates all together. Thankfully, excellent help is now available at The Drug and Alcohol Detox Clinic of South Mississippi.
