Putting a playground in the backyard for your kids can be quite exciting for the whole family. However, if the ground in the backyard isn’t level, your playset won’t be level either. So, how do you level ground? Why is it so important to installing a playground or playset? This involves a little scientific investigation.
How Do You Level Ground?
First and foremost, you can tell that the ground in your yard isn’t level if water pools in certain areas. It means that water in the yard flows a specific direction and ends up in low areas, which are separate by the higher areas. To level the ground, a tiller can scrape the land flat and then more dirt is added to make it all the same level. You know it’s a success when water doesn’t try to pool in any one area.
However, tilling your entire yard only results in more projects, specifically the addition of grass seed, fertilizer and more soil to restore some areas. It’s not a perfect solution. Instead, a lot of homeowners utilize playground foam and/or pea gravel. They take care to mark the depth of the legs of the playground equipment so that it is installed at the same level all around.
Why You Need to Level the Ground
Think of your home’s foundation. If it starts sinking in one corner, it pulls the structure that direction. Walls begin to crack and split and ceilings crumble. It works the same for any structure on uneven ground. To level your yard, contact LevelDry.
