Regular Bikes vs. Step-Through Bikes: Bicyclists Explain

by | Apr 26, 2024 | Vehicles

When perusing or purchasing manual, gas or electric bikes, should you go with a regular bike or a step-through bike. Anyway, what is the difference between a step-through bike and a regular bike?

We put this basic but important question to our local California fans of step-through electric bikes. Here’s what they told us.

Regular Electric BIkes 101

Most manual everyday bikes conform to the same basic silhouette. They consist of a curved frame strung with a chain and outfitted with two or more wheels.

The frame includes a tube top, the central bar connecting the front of the bike to the rest of its frame, the seat and the wheels. You often see cyclists standing still and resting, the tube top balanced between their thighs.

Regular Step-Through Electric Bikes

Step-through bikes have a very low tube top or no tube top at all. When mounting such a bike, the absence of a tube top allows you to step directly through the frame of the bike.

Stepping through the frame to mount the bike eliminates the need to kick your leg over the frame in order to settle into the seat. Plus, some people appreciate step-thru e-bikes for their unique, tube-top-less silhouette.

Benefits of Regular vs. Step-Through Bikes

People new to bikes often wonder, what is the difference between a step-through bike and a regular bike? Aside from differences in their silhouettes, there are many health advantages to either shape of the bike.

Based upon your age, body weight, flexibility and other factors, you might find step-through electric bikes easier to mount and dismount. Visit E-LUX Electric Bikes for more info.
