The Symptoms of ADHD in NJ

by | Apr 2, 2013 | Education

Many children are naturally wild and have difficulty sitting still and staying on task. However, there comes a point where what a child is experiencing is more than just normal childhood high energy. While the diagnosis of ADHD seems to be thrown around lightly these days, some children need this diagnosis to improve their quality of life. Knowing what to look for in your child can help you identify when you should have your child evaluated for ADHD NJ.

Inattentive

One of the biggest signs of ADHD in children is the inability to concentrate on what they are doing. These children will often have difficulty paying attention to their school work and may jump from activity to activity at home and at school. However, this doesn’t mean they are incapable of concentrating on one thing. Many children who have ADHD have one or two special activities on which they are able to concentrate regularly.

Hyperactivity

When most people think of ADHD NJ, they think of the hyperactivity aspect. Not all children who suffer from this condition exhibit the hyperactivity, though. If your child seems to be unable to settle down for any period of time or can’t seem to stay still, even when he is sitting, you may want to consider the possibility of ADHD if it is paired with inattentive behavior on a regular basis. However, it is important to remember that most children are hyperactive at some point during the day.

Impulsive

Another common symptom with ADHD is an impulsive nature. Many of the children who are diagnosed with ADHD exhibit impulsive behavior in their daily lives. When you pair that with the inattentiveness and hyperactivity, it creates a child who feels as if he is out of control in his life. This impulsive behavior is often what gets these children into trouble in their daily lives, causing them to require extra attention from those who care about them.

As a parent, it can be difficult to accept that something is different about your child. However, if you aren’t willing to accept the possibility, you aren’t doing your child any favors. This is why you need to pay attention to the symptoms your child exhibits so you know when to have him evaluated for ADHD in NJ. Whether your child is diagnosed with ADHD or not, at least you will be better prepared for what the future may hold.
